Interior Design Styles
Interior Design Styles have changed over time. They have changed from season to season. The world of interior design is not a stable industry, it is always changing. If you are interesting in redesigning your home or just a room and you want to be on top of the latest trends and issues that are happening in the design world today. You might be surprised however to find that some designers are actually moving backward instead of forward. Some designers are drawing on the design styles from the past to create their latest looks. Below are several of the various design styles that you may want to create in your own room.
Interior Design Styles reach back as far as 1760. In the time period between 1760 and 1790 designers and architects were being influenced by such things as Greek and Roman art work. This period was known as Adams. During this period most interior designs were based on straight lines and classical details.
Interior Design Styles then moved into the American Federal Era which was between 1790-1830. This neoclassical style was interpreted after the Revolutionary War. Interior designs featured such things as elegant lines, and intricate inlaid detailing. In most homes you would find rooms that featured curvilinear shapes and tapered legs, oval chair backs and brass. Another popular design style of this time period was the use of eagle motifs and Wedgewood china.
During the years of 1876-1955 we once again see a change in interior design styles. Styles have moved out of the American Federal style into what was called the Colonial Revival. This is where we see the departure from elaborate and elegant designs and styles. They began to move to a more simple design. This style was said to reflect American ideals and patriotism. Most rooms featured such things as brick and wood. Here we see the introduction of ceiling lights and fans to rooms.
Between the 1800’s and now we have seen an endless array of Interior Design Styles. Today styles are changing as they did the past. There is one style though that has managed to last all others in the world of design. This is the Country style of design. This style is considered to be unpretentious and rustic in nature. If decorating a room using the country style you should make sure that your furniture is primitive looking and simple. The most common materials that are used are oak and pine, wrought iron and hand painted accessories.
There are many interior design styles that you can use to decorate your home. It is a good idea to pick a style that you really like and go with it. It has been suggested that mixing styles and designs will only make your home look unorganized and untidy. Keeping with the same style will make your home look elegant or in some cases rustic and comfortable.
